The Palazzo delle Esposizioni's Art Workshop is going to be in Lampedusa again this year for the fifth edition of IBBY Camp Lampedusa entitled “Illustrate the world to me”, a week of voluntary work and activities promoted by IBBY Italia on the island from 14 to 20 November, to mark International Children's Rights Day.
The camp follows in the footsteps of the four camps organised previously in support of the opening of a children's library on the island, a project on which IBBY Italia has been working since 2012 and of which the Palazzo delle Esposizioni has been a promoting partner from day one. The initiative has gradually turned into an opportunity to call out in a loud voice, from the Mediterranean's remotest island, for all children to have the same right to read and to enjoy access to the culture of their time.
The Art Workshop will be playing an active role in the camp, with readings and workshops in the island's schools and public areas and with training meetings for teachers and professionals in the sphere of education.
2017 will also witness the start of the third edition of a project entitled Silent Books. Final Destination Lampedusa, which avails itself of contributions from all of IBBY's national sections to put together a collection of the best silent books published internationally to donate to the island's library. The project also produces a travelling exhibition, the past editions of which have kicked off precisely from the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, and a research collection of silent books housed on our Art Bookshelf.
