In Praise of Diversity Journey through Italian Ecosystems27 November 2024__30 March 2025

In Praise of Diversity is an exhibition devoted to the themes of biodiversity and one health. Promoted by Rome the Capital City’s Cultural Affairs Department and Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, and curated by Sapienza Università di Roma, the exhibition is funded by the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), established under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) as one of five national centres focusing on frontier research. It engages in an activity of strategic importance with a view to contributing to the achievement of the goals enshrined in the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 for sustainable development.

At a moment in history marked by a crisis in biodiversity and by climate insecurity, caused chiefly by man’s activities, an exhibition capable of drawing attention to, and increasing awareness of, the fragile nature of the balances governing our ecosystems, the interdependence between the various different life forms existing on our planet and our relationship with biodiversity, is more urgent than ever and is extremely useful for triggering forms of individual and collective responsibility.

The exhibition sets out to highlight a range of issues and circumstances: the value of biodiversity both in absolute terms and in relation to man’s psycho-physical wellbeing; the main anthropic factors – climate change, invasive species, habitat fragmentation and pollution – that are thought to be the root causes of the threat to biodiversity; the ‘one health’ vision as an integrated approach to balancing the health of people, animals and ecosystems; and the potential actions identified to reverse the trend and to move in the direction of enriching biodiversity on earth while simultaneously facilitating paradigms of prevention.

The scholarly advisory board comprises leading personalities and scientists from a range of Italian and international universities and research centres.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue and a full programme of collateral events and workshops for families and schools.
