To tie in with the Piero Tosi. Esercizi sulla bellezza. Gli anni del CSC 1988 – 2016 exhibition
a film retrospective produced by
Azienda Speciale Palaexpo and Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia – Cineteca Nazionale
What images would fill cinemagoers' imaginations without Angelica's gown in the final ball in The Leopard, without the pale, veiled profile of Tadjo's mother in Death in Venice or without the outrageous opulence surrounding Ludwig...? Symbolising an era that caused the whole world to sit up and take note of the Italian cinema, Piero Tosi's costumes are a crucial component in that season of legend. His genius is linked to the mastepieces of Visconti, Bolognini, Comencini, Pasolini and Cavani, the product of a collective creative process that echoes the great workshops of the Renaissance. Tying in with the exhibition devoted to his work, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni is staging a retrospective of films that is positively heady in the richness of its resources and its conception, offering the public a unique opportunity to see again, or to discover for the first time in their original, celluloid format, some of the milestones in the history of the cinema – films which, transcending changing fashions and tastes, continue even today to provide the moviegoer with a deep sense of the timelessness of art.
