Le notti bianche, directed by Luchino Visconti. Italy, 1957, 102 min.
Taking his cue from a tale by Dostoyevsky, Visconti invents a city on the water made of fog and snow, a dreamlike labyrinth where two youngsters' sentiments lose their way. The theatre and the cinema meet here in perfect harmony, making full use of the good looks of an extremely talented Marcello Mastroianni.
