curated by Lorena Munforti and Giancarlo Riccio
Romantics, Impressionists, Symbolists, Expressionists: in the space of a mere few decades, Europe was rocked and revitalized by avant-gardes in the art world so unprecedented and so vigorous that they broke down and rebuilt the very way in which painters, sculptors, musicians and writers looked at the world. The masterpieces from the splendid Städel Collection, housed in the Frankfurt Museum of the same name, are explained and explored by critics, writers and historians who will be probing the exhibition in greater depth from an art historical standpoint and setting the major cultural movements to which those masterpieces belong against the backdrop of the vibrant turn of the 20th century.
