A journalist, writer and photographer, Dulac founded a film production company in 1916 and began making films, soon becoming one of the leading figures of the French avant-garde as well as the first feminist filmmaker in the history of cinema. The featured selection pairs three short studies of abstract cinema with one of the great surrealist films of the time, The Seashell and the Clergyman, written by Antonin Artaud.
