Running concurrently with its "1861. The Painters of the Risorgimento" exhibition, the will be holding its now traditional cycle of lectures in the Sala Cinema at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni. The ideas, the thinking, the literature and the art, the artistic movements that breathed new life into Italy's cultural and intellectual history now almost 150 years ago, still have a vibrant bearing on our country's political and social life today. Knowing and understanding the Risorgimento and its demands and aspirations, in its moments of glory and of dashed hopes alike, can offer a crucial key to help people acquire a fuller and deeper insight into what makes Italy tick today. The exhibition marks the official inauguration of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Unity of Italy, which will be held throughout the length and breadth of the land for the whole of 2011.
