Inside Llewin Davis

directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, starring Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan and John Goodman, USA, France 2013, 105 min., 35mm, Italian version

In the early ‘sixties, a young folksinger seeks fame and fortune in the smoke-ridden bars of New York before Bob Dylan hit the scene. In this superb reconstruction of a period and an atmosphere, a new, melancholy anti-hero wanders aimlessly about, a loser yet a pigheaded one, surrounded by the customary gallery of eccentric characters such as a jazzman drugged up the eyeballs, in an astonishing performance by John Goodman. The film won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
