ECOUNTERS WITH DNA
Palazzo delle Esposizioni – Sala Cinema
16 February – 8 June 2017
It has become something of a tradition for every major exhibition at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni to be accompanied by a full programme of lectures and encounters exploring the exhibition's themes in greater depth. These events are open to all and are conducted by leading members of the world of scientific research both in Italy and abroad, providing you with a unique opportunity to get the latest changes in the relationship between science and society into focus. To bridge the gap that we perceive between our daily lives and the huge questions science seems to raise with increasing frequency, a number of illustrious scientists have accepted our invitation to take us with them, using simple but riveting language, on a fascinating journey into the realm of modern genetics. Under their guiding hand, we set out from the garden where Mendel grew peas and move on to labs infested with mutant gadflies, crime scenes (familiar from cop shows on TV), medical research laboratories, lush cornfields in the early 20th century and greenhouses bursting with the plants of the future, to discover that the boundless and wonderful variety we see in the world around us is largely regulated by the same invisible mechanisms. When science is told this way, it turns into a gripping, universal treasure hunt.
