S8ZERO/Project room

This work, conceived specifically for the Palazzo delle Esposizioni by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone (Brünnen, 1964), brings together diverse elements in a complex dramaturgy: installation, sculpture, photography and sound. A deep voice reads passages from the diaries written by Rondinone over the last few years. Walls made from fragments of mirrors transmit the image of a fragile reality. Shiny rubber clothes appear in the photographs with a strange absence of movement. In this muffled atmosphere, pervaded with a subtle nostalgia, even the life-sized clowns lying on their backs on the floor, are paralyzed in an inert lethargy.

A neon sign displaying the title of the exhibition is installed outside, on the terrace of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni.

Exhibition curated by Maria Grazia Tolomeo.

Catalogue edited by Maria Grazia Tolomeo, with text by the curator, published by PdE Edizioni in collaboration with Castelvecchi Arte, Rome 2001.
