How Italians really are? How do we describe ourselves? Palazzo delle Esposizioni continues investigate the building up of our identity since the National Unit on, through our best cinema. After the success of the cinematographic retrospective on Risorgimento, focused on the beginnings of Italy's unification process, we are now looking on our recent past. Through the documentary's perspective, Italians talk about themselves as true protagonists, creating a richer picture of our Country. Our national television network played a central role in our cultural development, therefore two great authors such as Italo Moscati and Gabriele Salvatores picked up handfuls of images from the precious Rai's archives to document our society's imaginary. As the television images sustain our collective memory, so do the songs such as the ones by the songwriter Ligabue - both narrative voice and "soundtrack" in Piergiorgio Gay's film - or the children's ones presented during the most famous Italian singing competition contest, Zecchino d'oro,  first mirage of music success for both kids and their families.  Rocco Giurato narrates an uncommon journey through our cinema of the past fifty years offering an analysis to reflect on emigration, center theme also of Edoardo Winspeare's documentary portraying the "new Italians". Pasolini's Comizi d'amore, is at the origin of our cinema of inquiry and its artistic sensibility, sounding our feelings while travelling through our Country in the 60's. "Which is the real Italy? The one described in my work or the one that remains hidden?", Pasolini asked himself. The same question is still unanswered as in Antonio and Lorenzo Scurati's film, contemporary update  of Pasolini's inquiry, as well as also in the other documentary films on the programme.
