My nomadism began in the early 1970s, when I went to India. In the mid-1970s I did my first large group of works made in India with the sign-painters I found in Madras. I’ve been travelling ever since. (Francesco Clemente)

The rich apparatus of illustrations offers an account of the wanderings of Francesco Clemente (Naples, 1952) in Italy, India and America. Photographs from his personal album accompany the story of a artist who is nomadic by vocation, the theme of the exhibition, and which can be found in the pages of the book. The reader is immersed in the Indian and Oriental tradition through images that reveal all the details of the installations brought together for Anima Nomade. Also illustrated is the brief biography that gives an account of Clemente’s fundamental encounters, travels and projects.
The volume, in addition to the conversation between the artist and the curator of the exhibition and the catalogue, Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, contains texts by Francesco Clemente, Jyotindra Jain, Jhumpa Lahiri, Barbara Radice, Emanuele Trevi.
Three pullout pages complete the catalogue with installation views of the narrative and typological layout of the exhibition, including the wall drawings made by the artist in situ for this occasion at Palazzo Esposizioni Roma.
