The catalogue will accompany visitors through the exhibition itinerary, covering the paintings and sculptures on loan from this renowned museum in Frankfurt, among Europe's finest art collections founded in 1815 by merchant and banker Johann Friederich Städel. The volume will offer a dense panorama of the masterpieces from the collection, which include crucial figures in art history such as Corot, Monet, Degas, Renoir, Van Gogh, Cézanne, Böklin, Feuerbach, Moreau, Munch, Klee, Picasso.
The introductory essay by catalogue curator Felix Krämer will outline the history of the museum, from its founding through to the difficult war years and up to the present day. The works on show will receive ample coverage according to the seven sections into which the exhibition is divided, with illustrations of each single work accompanied by biographical notes and illustrations of the artists featured in the exhibition.
