(Krótki film o milosci, 83 min., Poland 1988, original version with Italian subtitles) starring Grazyna Szapolowska and Olaf Lubaszenko

Young Tomek is obsessed with his next-door neighbour Magda. After spying on her with a telescope for some time, he decides to approach her and to declare his love for her, but the woman's reaction has dramatic consequences. Kieslowski displays unparalleled mastery in the exploration of the body and of sentiment, of solitude and passion.

The film will be preceded by a screening of

Pedestrian subway

(Przejscie podziemne, 28 min., Poland 1973, original version with Italian subtitles) starring Tresa Budzisz-Krzyzanowska and Andrzej Seweryn

Amid all the coming and going in a pedestrian underpass in the middle of Warsaw, we follow the story a couple separated for the past two years. She works as a window-dresser in a shop, while he attempts to get back with her. Filmed in a single day, this film is a minor miracle of authenticity which marked Kieslowski's de facto debut in the world of dramatic fiction.
