(Personel, 66 min., Poland 1975, original version with Italian subtitles) starring Juliusz Machulski and Irena Lorentowicz
Kieslowski's second feature film tells the story of a young tailor with the city opera house who sees his dreams fade away in a work environment made of pettiness, meanness, bickering and ambition. The director uses his own experience as a student of the theatre to build this astonishing metaphor of communist Poland.
The film will be preceded by a screening of:
The office
(Urzad, 5 min., Poland 1966, original version with Italian subtitles) documentary
The daily routine at the counter of the state insurance company is made up of endless queues, stamps and forms to fill in, while a clerk repeats the same question to everyone: "What have you done in life?" Kieslowski's first known documentary takes a caustically satirical look at the power of bureaucracy and red tape.
Concert of wishes
(Koncert zyczen, 16 min., Poland 1967, original version with Italian subtitles) starring Ryszard Dembinski, Jerzy Fedorowicz, Ewa Konarska
A bus full of students on an outing stops near a meadow by a lake. Amid laughter, antics and much drinking, a ball rolls out of sight. A boy dashes off to recover it, only to discover a young couple behind a bush... The director himself appears in an unexpected role in the last frame.
