Madame de..., 100 min., France 1953, Italian version, directed by Max Ophuls, with Danielle Darrieux, Charles Boyer and Vittorio De Sica

A pair of earrings sold by a lady of social standing ends up returning to her after passing by pure chance through the hands of her husband and those of his lover.  This little merry-go-round, however, eventually leads to tragedy.  Ophuls' alluring yet disenchanted cinema is at its most successful in this tightly-filmed movie.
