Porte des Lilas, 95 min., France/Italy 1957, Italian version, directed by René Clair, with Pierre Brasseur, Georges Brassens and Henry Vidal

On returning to France from his "exile" in Hollywood, Clair turned his hand to a melodrama in strong tones focusing on a love triangle involving unscrupulous gangsters, naive girls and forlorn young men.  As with so many of Clair's films, this is another emotional yet ironic tribute to Paris and its people.
