USA 1959, directed by Otto Preminger, starring James Stewart, George C. Scott, Lee Remick
b/w, 160’, 35mm, original language with Italian subtitles
A small-town lawyer represents a soldier charged with the killing of the man who raped his wife. But the truth is more complicated than expected. One of the first legal drama ever produced (and one of the best as well), Preminger's film is a deep and compelling analysis of how justice works in a world where truth cannot be reached. The original soundtrack was composed by Duke Ellington and the main titles were created by Saul Bass, and both are still memorable.
