(Japan 1948) by Akira Kurosawa, starring Takashi Shimura, Toshirō Mifune, b/w, 98’, 35mm original language with Italian subtitles

In post-war Tokyo's slums, a peculiar friendship is born between a young gangster affected by tuberculosis and the alcoholic physician who's trying to save him. Kurosawa considers this film as the first he was able to direct without being censored and conditioned. Unsurprisingly, it became one of the most beloved masterpieces among his works. Takashi Shimura and Toshirō Mifune, here for the first time on the big screen, will be Kurosawa's favorite actors for years to come.
