Journalist Burke Devlin is intrigued by a group of barnstorming pilots, including wartime ace Roger Shumann and his wife LaVerne, with whom he ends up falling in love. One of Sirk’s later films, based on a novel by William Faulkner, it is more sober than his earlier work with its gloomy, fatalistic mood.
