Admission free while places last – reservations are required

The Decameron

directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. Italy, France, Germany, 1971, 110 min.

The first chapter in what Pasolini was to christen the Trilogy of Life marked a clear turning point by comparison with his earlier work: a rich choral fresco exalting the sexual freedom of the lower classes with uncouth merriment in an elementary and happy dimension, out of time and without any concerns of morality. Winning the Silver Bear award at the Berlin Festival, the film sparked a controversy in Italy, attracting charges of pornography, before spawning a host of imitations.

followed by

Sana'a set (5 min.), an episode never screened before

The walls of Sana'a

directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. Italy, 1971, 13 min.

While working on The Decameron in Yemen, Pasolini filmed this heartfelt appeal to save the historic city of Sana’a from the degradation of modern urbanisation.
