(Japan, 1961) directed by Shôhei Imamura, starring Hiroyuki Nagato, Mitsi Mori, Takeshi Katô, b/w, 108’, 35mm, original language with Italian subtitles

Himori's gang is having trouble since the police closed the brothel that they used to run next to an American navy base. They need money, so they steal, swindle, rob and threaten, but eventually the gang splits. A key author of the Japanese New Wave of the sixties, Imamura wasn't able to work for two years after his film was accused of anti-Americanism. Yet Buta To Gunkan was destined to become one of his most beloved and known works.
