The economic system has become invisible and escapes our grasp. In recent years we have often noticed that something is not right... but what, exactly? Oeconomia reveals the rules of the capitalist game and shows how economic growth and profit are only possible when people get into debt. But while reports in the media do not help us to understand the true mechanisms hiding behind our daily lives, Oeconomia sets out to break the system down into its basic ground rules in order to shed light on contemporary capitalism. The result is a zero sum game that places human beings and the whole planet in the rationale of a perpetual and never-ending increase in capital at whatever cost– a game that may soon be coming to an end.

Carmen Losmann is a German director born in 1978. After studying for three years in Cologne and in England (gaining a BA in Art Marketing) she enrolled at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne and graduated in cinema studies. Her first film, a documentary feature film entitled Work Hard Play Hard, explores the effects of the modern management of human resources and has won numerous prizes, including the prestigious German Grimme Prize in 2014. She won a study grant from the Gerd Ruge Project for Oeconomia. Carmen Losmann lives and work in Cologne and Templin.
