(France 1931) by Jean Renoir, starring Michel Simon, Georges Flamant, Janie Marèse b/w, 91’, 35mm original language with Italian subtitles
A Parisian office worker bossed by his wife bumps into a prostitute and desperately falls in love with her. The prostitute's lover encourages her to take advantage of the man, with dramatic consequences. A noir masterpiece ahead of its times (Fritz Lang remade it as Scarlet Street), it is a masterful mix of suspense, realism, social commentary and gallows humor typical of Renoir's style.
