Wrongly accused of theft, the naive Lina ends up in a women's prison, dubbed "Le Mantellate". Here she meets Egle, a hardened criminal who lords it over the other inmates but seems to like Lina. Magnani is a powerhouse as Egle, in one of the most important and original film by Castellani. Originally cut by the producers against the author's will, here we present the director's cut - a precious 35mm copy provided by the Cineteca Nazionale.
