Once upon a time there was the miracle of imagination... When the vocabulary of reality appeared to be losing its punch, De Sica and Zavattini chose the fairy tale to denounce the circumstances of the poor and the down-and-outs.  This unique masterpiece of poetic irony won first prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
