(USA 1943) directed by Robert Stevenson, starring Orson Welles, Joan Fontaine, b/w, 97’, 35mm original language with Italian subtitles
Based on the famous novel by Charlotte Brontë, the film tells the story of Jane Eyre from her parentless childhood up until the meeting with the aristocratic Rochester, who employs her as a governess. Soon they fall in love with each other, but he hides an hideous secret. Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine's perfect performances, Aldous Huxley's screenplay and Bernard Herrmann's score are more than enough to make this particular screen adaptation of the novel a must-see.
