(USA 1949) directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, starring Jeanne Crain, Linda Darnell, Ann Sothern, Kirk Douglas, b/w, 103’, 35mm Italian dubbed version
During a charity picnic, three married women receive a letter from their best friend. She announces to them that she will leave town along with one of their husbands. The message makes the three women panic, and force them to reconsider their whole married life. Truffaut aptly wrote about Mankiewicz: "He's vivid, intelligent, diabolical with precision, savior-faire and knowledge". This film is one of the highest peaks of Mankiewicz's art, and one of his most famous comedies, too: it won two Academy Awards.
