(UK 1982) directed by Peter Greenaway, starring Anthony Higgins, Janet Suzman, Anne-Louise Lambert, color, 108’, 35mm Italian dubbed version

Lady Herbert, a noblewoman, asks a painter to draw twelve drawings in her English country house. Each time the painter finishes a drawing, the woman will give herself to him. But, at some point, clues of a murder begin to pop up on the landscape, and the painter fears for his own life. Greenaway's sensational first feature succeeds in compellingly mixing sophistication with cruelty, sex with politics, cinema with painting. Michael Nyman wrote the famous musical score.
