Un chien andalou

directed by Luis Buñuel. France, 1929, 16 min., original version with Italian subtitles

This dreamlike masterpiece by Buñuel and his friend Salvador Dalí is a frenzy of mental associations and visual allusions giving free rein to the subsconscious. The slashed eye at the beginning is one of the most famous "shock pix" in the history of the cinema.

Blue Velvet

directed by David Lynch. USA, 1986, 121 min., Italian version

The visionary talent of the contemporary cinema tears up the picture postcard image of provincial America, to reveal all of its perversion and its violence.  Daily life unveils its darker side at the hallucinating pace of base instinct.
