Recital of poems about love by Mariangela Gualtieri on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

25 November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, designated by the United Nations in 1999.

The Department for Equal Opportunities of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, represented by Prof. Cecilia Guerra, Vice-Minister of Labour and Social Policies in charge of Equal Opportunities, and Ermenegilda Siniscalchi, Head of the Department for Equal Opportunities, in collaboration with the Assessorato alla Cultura and the Assessorato alle Pari Opportunità of the Municipality of Rome, is pleased to host a free event open to the public on the evening of 25 November 2013 at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome. This will be a recital of poems by Mariangela Gualtieri, Poetess, who will recite her verses about love. Mariangela Gualtieri is considered one of the greatest Italian living poets. Poetess and writer, Ms. Gualtieri, together with Cesare Ronconi, has founded the Valdoca Theatre, which is one of the most important and popular theatres in Italy. With reference to the present event, Ms. Gualtieri has expressed the wish to donate her fee to an association for the rehabilitation of male perpetrators.   Through this event targeting especially young people, the Government intends to highlight that, in order to effectively fight against gender-based violence, mobilization of culture, schools, civil society and the general public is fundamental. Gender respect and the recognition that sexual differences contribute to enriching and infusing care, harmony and love into every aspect of human life are essential. Legislation, although shared and effective, is insufficient to combat gender-based violence and its spread. Increasing awareness, understanding, respect and mutual kindness is therefore central to make each action efficient and effective.

Entry is free on a first come, first served basis. You are kindly invited to participate.

Journalists and camera operators wishing to attend the event are requested to send an accreditation request by e-mail to comunicazione.po@governo.it.
