directed by Luigi Magni. Italy 1969 (105 min)
Driven by scathing anticlericalism, Magni paints an irreverent fresco of pre-Risorgimento Rome seen through the eyes of Pasquino, the author of anonymous satirical epigraphs that give voice to the grumbling of the city's underdogs. Nino Manfredi, Alberto Sordi and Ugo Tognazzi provide truly memorable performances as the trio underpinning the plot.
