One of the masterpieces from Buñuel's Mexican period, and indeed one of the most fascinating movies of his entire career, set against the backdrop of a petty family quarrel over a mother's inheritance, this film tells the tale of a journey in which virtually anything can happen, doing so with irony and with a surrealist taste for paradox.
