directed by Yakov Protazanov, starring Yuliya Solntseva, Igor Ilyinsky and Nikolai Tsereteli. USSR 1924 – original version with Italian subtitles (120 min.)
The socialist revolution in space: an astronaut lands on Mars, ruled over by the extremely beautiful Queen Aelita, and takes part in the revolution of the Martian proletariat, the victims of a vile system of worker exploitation. This first legendary masterpiece of Soviet sci-fi is an extraordinary movie also from an aesthetic point of view, thanks to the originality of the production with the use of constructivist sets set against realistic views of Moscow. Garners in Exile are two incredible builders of electronic sound landscapes who have earned enormous praise abroad: Valerio Lupo Faggioni, artist in residency at the Electronic Music Institute in Arhus, Denmark, and a researcher for the Dolby laboratories in San Francisco, and Guido Zen, who has been working in London since 1995 where he has worked with Leftfield, John Lydon, and Shola Ama. They have played together in London, New York, Copenhagen, Paris and Tokyo and at the Art Basel in Switzerland. They also wrote the soundtrack for Biutiful Cauntri, the documentary film revelation of 2008.
