Metropolis

24 november 2009
live musical accompaniment by I.H.C.

Directed by Fritz Lang, starring Gustav Fröhlich, Brigitte Helm and Alfred Abel.  Germany 1927 – original version with Italian subtitles (117 min.)

One of the most important movies ever made, universally acknowledged to be a model for today's cinema, this films tells how the clash between magic and technology upsets the alienating rhythm of a megalopolis in the 21st century, sparking a revolt by the worker-slaves.
The film is the staging of a delirium, a total work of art, a full-fledged visual symphony in which Lang's architectural and painterly imagination is expressed at its highest level.  I.H.C, a group that first got together in 1998, comprises some of the most interesting musicians of recent years, hailing from such projects as the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, Ardecore, Etruria Criminale Banda and the Roberto Gatto Quintet, offering a fusion of jazz, funk, rock, noise and avant-garde and a sound that merges Miles Davis with the Stooges and the Funkedelic.
