(Spain 1960), by Marco Ferreri, starring José Isbert, Pedro Porcel, b/w, 86’, 35mm Italian dubbed version
Old Don Anselmo envies his handicapped friend. He wants to get a motorized wheelchair, but his family doesn't want to buy it to him. Yet he gets it in the end, and he's ready to shed blood to keep it... Ferreri's third film is a radical statement against middle-class hypocrisy during Franco's regime, in a corrosive and hilarious style that mocks the bleeding hearts of Neo-realism, not far from Buñuel's best outcomes.
