directed by Billy Wilder, starring Jack Lemmon, Juliet Mills, Clive Revill, USA, Italia 1972, 144 min., colour, 35mm, original version with Italian subtitles
A man and a woman meet on Ischia to recover the bodies of their respective parents who died in a car accident, only to discover that they had been lovers for years. Wilder came to Italy at the end of his career to adapt a classic romantic theme (a businessman’s hard heart melted by love) to the lure of the Mediterranean with a captivating soundtrack by Nino Rota, forging a phenomenally entangled plot that moves at an extraordinary pace to once again point the finger of ridicule at American puritanism.
