Words have always occupied Jim Dine's sculptural and mental space. From the start of his artistic career the artist has always associated images, words and objects in his works, exploring them in the same way, developing an explicit interchangeability among them. Becoming an object in its own right, verbal representation has followed the vicissitudes of painterly, graphic and photographic creative practice to the point where it occupies not just the artist's aesthetic space but his living space.
