directed by Werner Herzog, Germany, France, Austria, UK, 2005, 80 min., original version with Italian subtitles
A group of astronauts in orbit around the earth, which has become uninhabitable, needs to find a more hospitable place in space. This sci-fi movie, shot like a documentary through the addition of astonishing NASA repertoire images, is a disturbing poem that brings 2001 Space Odyssey up to date in an ecological vein. The unquestioned master of visionary cinema composes a requiem for our dying planet and provokes us into reflecting on the transitory nature of man’s existence before the eternity of the Universe.
