(USA 1949) directed by Max Ophuls con James Mason, Joan Bennett, B/W, duration: 82’, 35mm Original version, Italian subtitles
When her daughter confesses the accidental killing of her lover, Lucia decides to hide the corpse, but falls into the hands of a blackmailer—who, however, ends up falling under the woman's spell... Ophuls' last Hollywood production begins as a noir but soon veers toward the melodrama, a genre more congenial to the French-German director, one of the few filmmakers idolized by Kubrick for his incredible talent for moving the camera and directing actors.
