(Nusumareta yokujō, Japan 1958) Directed by Shōhei Imamura, starring Osamu Takizawa, Kin Sugai, Shin'ichi Yanagisawa, b/w, duration: 92’, 35mm OV with Italian subtitles
One of the standard bearers of the New Wave of Japanese cinema in the 1960s and a future winner of two Palme d'Or awards at Cannes, Imamura chooses for his debut a comedy about a ramshackle group of itinerant actors, grappling daily with family rivalries and dubious performances, immediately demonstrating an interest in the less noble aspects of Japanese society that will be at the center of all his cinema to come.
