(France 1967) directed by Robert Bresson, starring Nadine Nortier, Jean-Claude Guilbert, color, duration: 81’, 35mm Original version, Italian subtitles
In a small country town, teenager Mouchette grows up in misery with her sick mother and alcoholic father. One afternoon, during a storm, she gets lost in the woods and is sheltered by a poacher, who rapes her. Right after Au hasard Balthazar, Bresson returns with impressive rigor to the story of a victim predestined to suffer, in a world dominated by abuse where the divine will is inscrutable.
