Mamma Roma

21 may 2021

directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. Italy, 1962, 105 min.

Anna Magnani is Mamma Roma, a prostitute in search of redemption and of a decent life for her son. After seeing the film Accattone, the actress asked Pasolini if she could play this, the second character that he had dreamt up. The result was a stormy rapport that was to produce this shocking portrait of mankind in transformation, crushed by the weight of life on the soulless outer edges of the big city.
