Introduction

Giovanna Silva

The seminar illustrates the way in which a photographic project is produced, describing the various conceptual aspects that lead to the creation of a landscape narrative, tellling the story of a place from a clear and comprehensive angle: a visual test-bore into the research and construction of a precise photographic dimension. Publisher and photographer Giovanna Silva sees exhibitions as an editorial project, as a tool for personal exploration of the self and for familiarising with other cultures. From the Narratives series published by Mousse Publishing and devoted to photography in countries at war, she will be moving on to her editorial role for Humboldt Books, where she uses her publishing skills to work on archive and artistic photography.

Giovanna Silva lives and works in Milan. She has worked with the magazines Domus and Abitare and published her projects with A+M bookstore, Quodlibet, Mousse Publishing, Motto Publishing and Art Paper Editions. She took part in the 14th International Exhibition of Architecture in Venice with a project entitled Nightswimming, Discotheques in Italy from the 1960s until now. She founded the architecture magazine San Rocco and the Humboldt Books publishing house, whose Editorial Director she now is. She lectures in Editorial Photography at the NABA in Milan, at the IUAV in Venice and at the  ISIA in Urbino.
