Giovanna Silva and Alberto Saibene
Taking its cue from photographs that Gabriele Basilico took while travelling in Iran as a young man, HumboldtBooks rummages through the archives of photographers, directors, architects and artists to dig up memorable trips, explorations in knowledge and reportages subsequently forgotten: snapshots of a day when the relationship between time and space was a very different matter and which, when seen through contemporary eyes, take on new value and significance. It is also new to work with authors who are often no longer with us and who need to be studied and interpreted in order not to betray their intentions.
Giovanna Silva lives and works in Milan. She has worked with the magazines Domus and Abitare and published her projects with A+M bookstore, Quodlibet, Mousse Publishing, Motto Publishing and Art Paper Editions. She entered a project entitled Nightswimming, Discotheques in Italy from the 1960s until now in the 14th International Exhibition of Architecture in Venice. She founded the architecture magazine San Rocco and the publisher Humboldt Books, whose Editorial Director she now is. She lectures in editorial photography at the NABA in Milan, at the IUAV in Venice and at the ISIA in Urbino.
Alberto Saibene has curated two anthologies of Olivetti's writings for the Edizioni di Comunità and has explored the history of Olivetti in exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. He and Giovanna Silva founded the Humboldtbooks publishing company in 2012. He is a consultant with the publisher Hoepli, he has produced over twenty cultural documentaries for television and he directed the film La ragazza Carla in 2015. He has written radio programmes for Radio Tre and collaborates with the online cultural magazine Doppiozero.
