an encounter with Rita Petruccioli

An encounter to understand how an illustrator works: the processes, ideas and style required in creating a tale in images. Creating characters, interpreting the text, choosing your reference target, teamwork in a publishing house and the time it takes to put it all together are just a few of the topics that this Rome-born illustrator and cartoonist will be discussing in the course of the meeting.

Rita was born in Rome in 1982. She works primarily as an illustrator and has recently published her first strip cartoon entitled Frantumi (2017), written by Giovanni Masi and published by Bao Publishing. She trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma and specialised in illustration at the ENSAD in Paris. She has shown her work in Italy, France, Germany and Korea. She has worked as an illustrator and cartoonist for magazines, textile design, advertising, children's books and strip cartoons, She has published her work with some of Italy's leading publishers including Mondadori, Laterza and Nuovafrontiera Junior, and she has worked with Ladybird, Auzou, ELI, Tunué, Piemme, Il Castoro, White Star, Smemoranda and Zanichelli and with such independent labels as Inuit, Squame, Crisma and Chicken Broccoli.
